Planned Updates, Roadmap and Reflection

Hello everyone!

In terms of future plans for this game i intend to continue adding new features in time not only for my own enjoyment as a game devloper but i think having a fully funcitoning game will be very good for experience with unity and making games as a whole. Although i wouldnt expect the updates or patches to roll out as quickly, i will still try to keep this page updated on whats going on wuth the game.

To start, following a survey found linked below, people gave feedback on the current state of V0.1.4. Since then V1.0.0 has released but i aim to still incoporate most of the relevent questions, as some have already been asnwered/fixed. The results of this survey will also reflect the timeframe of when V0.1.4 was released.

To begin, most people found this game to be quite enjoyable, with an average of 7.3 out of ten. The answers were pretty consistant so there was not much variation.

Players also found this game relatively enganging, having again a 7.3 rating out of 10. However there was a great deal of variation to this feedback which i believe to know the cause of. ranging from between 4 out of 10 to 10 out of 10.

When asked whether players would reccomend this game to a friend, all anseres provided said that they would. This is a really great sign that my game would be engaging to play with friends thus qualifing it as a great arcade/couch-play game.

When asked about the players favourite aspect of the game, the majority seemed to really enjoy the power-ups, specifically the mine. Some players mentioned they liked the tank controls and the base turret as well.

When asked about what might players imporve or add into the game the majority of players asked seemed to conclude that an AI or singleplayer mode would be ideal. This ties back to why i believe the game had such variation in its engangment as it can be a bit dull playing against yourself, however playing with a friend seems to be very enjoyable. Having the option to choose between the two would make the game a lot more enganging and enjoyable.

In terms of bugs, it seemed that 50% of players found bugs and vise versa. Some of these have already been patched out however i believe that playing certain ways seemed to find bugs more often than not. Still, to a good majority of players it seemed bugless.

So what can we expect for What the Tank?! in the future?

For this game i want to develop more into three areas to begin with. Those being:

  • More maps with interactbles
  • An AI oppponent for a signle player mode
  • More power-ups to change the dynamic of the game

I wasn't exactly sure which direction i wanted to go with for this game first, however the feedback has helped me decide what order i should prioritse these topics. So here is a general roadmap of my plans:

1. AI or Singleplayer mode

A lot of the feedback suggests that an AI or singleplayer mode would help improve the game not only for enjoyment but also for engagment. Because of this i aim to develop a singleplayer mode, along with an AI and some other various elements to enable a player to play on thier own.

2. Power-ups

Compared to the maps, players seemed to enjoy the power-ups much more than interchanging maps. I aim to add at least 5 new power-ups to consider this section complete, along with making possible changes to how the tanks react depedning on such changes.

3. Interatable maps

Even though not overly requested, i intend to add stylesied maps and interatables into the game as i believe that may differ the engangment of the game, on top of also changing the dynamic of the game by adding things such as breakable walls, movable boxes, slippery or slow fields and much more.

Overall, im pretty happy with how V1.0.0 turned out. Comparing it to my intial proposal it has certainly changed during development, though from feedback i've gotten from friends and peers it seems to be a very enjoyable game. As stated i intend to make this game a little side project in my spare time but for now i believe i have made a sufficent game that covers a fundamental standard to each area of a game.
